Andrew Combs ’06, of Philadelphia and currently attending Columbia Business School in New York City, won the half marathon portion of the 20th Maine Marathon and Half Marathon Oct. 1.
Amid windy and rainy conditions, Combs ran the 13.1-mile-course, stretching from Portland’s Back Cove to Yarmouth and back, in 1:09:20 – more than a minute ahead of the second-place finisher.
“It was cold, wet and windy; said differently, it was awesome,” writes Combs in an email to the Bowdoin Daily Sun.
“We had a great group of Bowdoin alumni runners in the race, including Allie Yanikoski ’06 and Randy Kring ’11, and an even better group of cheerleaders. Ben Martens ’06, Anya Trundy ’06, Kalyn Bickerman ’07 and Sarah Scott ’07 braved the weather to dominate the cheering section.”

Combs’ time would have been even faster if he didn’t insist on racing in hiking boots and with a loaded crossbow strapped to his back.
