As Canada celebrates Hockey Day on Saturday (isn’t every day Hockey Day up there?) the CBC shines the spotlight on Kristen Cameron ’08. Cameron, a former standout on the Bowdoin College women’s hockey team, had been pursuing a master’s degree and working as an assistant hockey coach at Mercyhurst College, in Erie, Pa., when she was hit by a drunken driver while biking in 2010, leaving her partially paralyzed. An inspiration to those around her, Cameron speaks of her recovery, her love of hockey and how the two intersect.
As an alumnus of Bowdoin College, I saw Kristen Cameron’s story on the CBC through the Bowdoin College website. I am a great hockey fan and go to all the Bowdoin home games. I remember the outstanding play of Kristen when she was an undergraduate.
Her story is a remarkable one of courage and perseverance, beautifully told by the CBC. I know many at Bowdoin will be supporting her in her recovery. Thanks for the great job in telling her story.

Great woman! Makes me think of Gabby, the Tuscon representative who was shot in the head!
As a Canadian, living in Bath, Maine, I was deeply touched by this story. Wished I knew more about Kristen when she was playing here. Only goes to show that womens sports need more coverage. I wish you well young lady, you surely are an inspirational force.
