Tyler Micoleau ’91 Wins Tony Award for Stage Lighting on ‘The Band’s Visit’ Archives

On his Broadway debut, lighting designer Tyler Micoleau ’91 has picked up a prestigious Tony Award. He was recognized for his work on the hit musical The Band’s Visit, which picked up a total of ten Tonys at the June 10 award ceremony.

The show, which is about a group of Egyptian musicians who mistakenly arrive at a small town in the Israeli desert, was described by Micoleau as a great opportunity for a lighting designer. “Most of the story takes place in a desert town in Israel, over a single night,” he said last month, after being nominated. “The atmosphere the lighting creates can best be described as isolated, sultry, soft, and wispy. And there’s a roller-disco scene for a change of pace!”

On receiving the award, Micoleau said he was speechless, but managed to find he words to thank his colleagues on the show, among other people. Click here to see an interview with Micoleau on Broadway World..

Micoleau graduated from Bowdoin with a self-designed major in theater with an emphasis on stage design.
