Audio: Why Comedy Is a Matter of Survival Archives

Davis Robinson

For Professor of Theater Davis Robinson, comedy is a subject not to be taken lightly. During the spring semester, he gave faculty colleagues an insight into the importance of comedy, not just on the stage and screen, but in real life.

His seminar was called The Resilience of Comedy: Why a Little Song, a Little Dance, a Little Seltzer Down Your Pants’ Matters.” The quote, he explained, is from a well-known episode of the Mary Tyler-Moore Show about the funeral of Chuckles the clown.

Robinson spoke with Bowdoin College writer and multimedia producer Tom Porter on WBOR Radio. Sure, comedy helps us get through daily life, he explained, but it also has a much bigger role.
