There’s a growing consumer trend to rent instead of buy, a movement some refer to as “collaborate consumption,” made popular by such companies as video rental giant Netflix (co-founded by Reed Hastings ’83) and the car-sharing service Zipcar.

Entrepreneurs like Zac Gittens ’06, who co-founded TieSociety, a mail order designer tie rental business, are taking the fashion in new directions.
