Robert Frost’s poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” was published on this day in 1923. The Writer’s Almanac with Garrison Keillor highlights the anniversary, noting that, “More than 20 years later, in 1947, a young man named N. Arthur Bleau attended a reading Frost was giving at Bowdoin College. Bleau asked Frost which poem was his favorite, and Frost replied that he liked them all equally.”

The Writer’s Almanac goes on to report that later, the poet invited Bleau up to the stage, and revealed that, in truth, his favorite was “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” saying it was based on his life.
