Slide Show: The Schooner Bowdoin Visits Bath Archives

The two-masted schooner Bowdoin paid a visit to nearby Bath this past weekend as part of Mariner’s Day festivities at the Maine Maritime Museum. Built during the winter of 1920-21 in East Boothbay, Maine, the Bowdoin was designed for Arctic exploration by Donald B. MacMillan of the Class of the Class of 1898. MacMillan logged more than 300,000 miles over 267 voyages on the 88-ft. long vessel. Today, the Bowdoin is owned by the Maine Maritime Academy, which uses her for its sail training curriculum.

For more information on the Bowdoin, MacMillan, and the College’s storied Arctic connections, visit the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum in Hubbard Hall on the Bowdoin College campus, or have a look at the Museum’s website. (Photos © Dennis Griggs)
