Comedian Hari Kondabolu ’04, whose recent work includes appearances on Comedy Central and a story for Spin magazine’s “funny” issue, was back on campus to entertain fellow Polar Bears as part of Asian Week 2012. Jackie Su ’12 shares her insights on Kondabolu’s return to Bowdoin.

Hari Kondabolu ’04 returned Friday to perform in Kresge Auditorium before a packed audience of students and prospective students. His brand of intelligent comedy takes some of its influences from its time at Bowdoin, which he referenced in various jokes in his act.

Professor Henry Laurence, associate professor of government and Asian studies, and director of the Asian Studies Program, introduced Kondabolu at Kresge and offered some of his own jokes based on the Bowdoin magazine feature of Kondabolu. After the performance, Kondabolu fielded questions about his career path and trajectory, as well as his experiences as a Bowdoin student.

Kondabolu and  Laurence also attended a reception at Mac House with students, including two fans who drove up from Portland, to continue the discussion. Kondabolu also spoke to Laurence’s Global Media and Politics class Friday morning, offering students a look at pursuing careers in creative arts and sharing his post-Bowdoin experience with the class.
