There is No Finish Line: The Joan Benoit Samuelson Story will premiere at 5 p.m. Saturday in Kanbar Auditorium, Studzinski Recital Hall, as part of the Homecoming Weekend Celebration of 40 Years of Women’s Athletics at Bowdoin.

Twenty-seven years ago, August 5, 1984, Joan Benoit ’79 ran into Los Angeles Olympic Stadium and into history as the gold medalist in the first women’s Olympic marathon-and she hasn’t stopped since. There is No Finish Line, a new documentary from Nike, celebrates Joan Benoit Samuelson’s groundbreaking career that helped transform women’s athletics and profoundly influenced the entire sport of running. Into her fifth decade, Joanie continues to challenge herself and to inspire others, not only as a competitor, but as a community member, an ambassador and activist for health and wellness and for the environment. An icon of sport, of her home state of Maine, and her alma mater Bowdoin, through it all, she has remained “Joanie.”
