A new survey finds that engineering students spend more time studying than other majors, with 42% claiming to hit the books at least 20 hours per week. Business students are another story, coming in behind every other major, with only 19% spending 20 hours per week on schoolwork, but an outstanding 16 hours per week at paying jobs.
The National Survey of Student Engagement collected data from over 400,000 undergraduate students at nearly 700 colleges and universities in the United States to determine the study habits and demographics of higher education. Though students majoring in arts and humanities, education, and social sciences rank lowest in schoolwork obligation, the survey concludes that students at liberal arts colleges tend to have a heavier and more challenging workload.
