One Survivor Remembers, a short 1995 documentary by Kary Antholis ’84, president of HBO Miniseries, is one of 25 films chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Film Registry this year. An HBO/U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum production, the film chronicles the six-year ordeal of Holocaust survivor Gerda Weissmann Klein, who spent six years as a victim of Nazi cruelty, enduring the loss of her family, community and her home.

The film won the Academy Award in 1995 for Best Documentary Short Subject. It also won an Emmy for Outstanding Information Special. The National Film Registry began in 1989 under an act of Congress to preserve films with artistic, cultural or historic significance. Each year since, 25 films have been added. Films must be at least 10 years old. Read the Library of Congress news release.
