Olympic gold medalist and so-called “marathon matriarch” Joan Benoit Samuelson ’79, and Brian Ferriso ’88, director of the Portland Art Museum (PAM) in Oregon, collaborated to host the Panel of Olympic Athletes event at the PAM. The panel comprised Olympians Benoit Samuelson, Carl Lewis, and Ashton Eaton, along with Sarah Reinertsen, the first female leg amputee to complete the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. The forum was featured in conjunction with the PAM’s current exhibition, The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece, which features more than 150 major Greek and Roman antiquities from the renowned British Museum. A major topic of the show is the origin of the Olympic Games.
