Nearly 120 alumni, parents and friends came out for the Second Bowdoin Invitational Golf Tournament on a beautiful September day to enjoy the course at Essex County Club in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts.
Between great play and great times reconnecting with old – and new —friends, the day was organized in honor and memory of the late Wil Smith ’00, whose legacy at Bowdoin remains strong. Part fun, part fundraiser, the tournament collectively raised $80,000 for financial aid, with most proceeds benefitting the Wil Smith ’00 Scholarship Fund, which has been set up to benefit Bowdoin students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their communities. Wil’s friend and teammate, David Lovely ’99, shared inspiring remarks over dinner after the tournament.
With special greetings for players and their guests from Trustee Emerita, Lee Herter H’13, P’76, P’77, and the welcomed presence of Trustee Board Chair Emeritus, Fred Thorne ’57, H’05, the day was one of great memories and lots of fun.
