While many declare themselves not to be “morning people,” a new study shows that the emotions of Twitter users peak in the morning and decline throughout the day.
Researchers at Cornell gathered 509 million tweets from 2.4 million users in 84 countries to analyze mood trends based on the language of a post. Though it’s no surprise that people are happier on the weekend, data from countries with a varied workweek demonstrated a direct impact on the shift in moods.
The study was determined to critically evaluate mood rhythms across diverse cultures in terms of work, sleep, daylength and season, and was published by Science magazine.
