The Bowdoin College Women’s Hockey Team has given $1,600 to the Women’s Health Fund at Mid Coast Hospital to support breast cancer patients who are in financial need. Team members raised the funds on campus and at hockey games this season by accepting donations for the pink ribbons they created.
They also raised awareness of breast cancer by holding a “Pink the Rink” hockey game last February where they laced their skate with pink laces and wrapped their sticks in pink tape. “We were pleased that so many students and fans of our team joined with us to support this effort,” said Assistant Coach Lisa Batchelor.
Mid Coast’s Breast and Surgical Oncology Clinic Director Kim Lynch said, “It is wonderful that these young athletes have once again demonstrated their support of women with breast cancer in our community. We are truly grateful to them all.”
Last year, the team raised $1,175 for Mid Coast Hospital.
