During the 1963 March on Washington, Bowdoin student Stephen London ’64 was among those who heard the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. deliver his famous “I have a dream” speech. Modern civil rights supporters from across the nation will assemble on the National Mall to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March later this month. The activities of August 28 will no doubt be a celebration of the 1960’s civil rights victories, but also, according to Boston NAACP President Michael Curry, a chance to “re-ignite that conversation.”
