For his tireless devotion to the College, Leo J. Dunn III, a member of the Class of 1975, has been named the recipient of the 2015 Alumni Service Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Bowdoin Alumni Council.

The award is presented each year in recognition of an individual’s record of volunteer service to the College.

Dunn, of Dover, Massachusetts, has served as Class Agent for the Class of 1975 for 28 years, and has volunteered for Bowdoin in a variety of important roles. He has been an Alumni Fund Director, Chair of the Alumni Fund, and a valued member of the Alumni Council.

He has also been a member of the Leadership Gift Committee for his class, and served on the Hall of Honor Selection Committee.

Dunn has been described as instrumental in the success of several capital campaigns, and led a successful effort to re-engage members of his former fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, which culminated in the installation and dedication of a Polar Bear sculpture on the concourse of the Sidney J. Watson Arena.

“I am honored to be recognized for this award as there are literally hundreds of Bowdoin volunteers who are equally deserving, if not more so,” Dunn said.

“Bowdoin has been a tremendously positive influence on my life and always meant a great deal to me and my family. It has always been my privilege to serve as a volunteer for Bowdoin and particularly to the Class of 1975.”

Dunn is the second of three generations of Bowdoin alumni. Having graduated with a double major in history and government, Dunn went on to earn his law degree at Suffolk Law School in Boston before becoming one of the leading civil litigation attorneys in Massachusetts.

His peers in the Boston legal community recognized him as such, naming Dunn one of the leading practitioners of civil trial work in The Boston Globe.

The Alumni Service Award will be presented Saturday, May 30, 2015, during Reunion Convocation.

Registration for Reunion 2015 (May 28-31) opens in March.
