Jeanne Assael Goussev ’99 and her all-female crew sailed — and bicycled — their way to victory in the Race to Alaska, a 750-mile odyssey from Port Townsend, Wash., to Ketchikan, Alaska.
Team Sail Like A Girl, the first all-women crew to win the race, used the wind, their sailing skills, and two stationary bicycles off the stern to power their 32-foot sailboat, adhering to the race rule that no motors be used.
They crossed the finish line in six days, thirteen hours, and seventeen minutes, beating forty-two other teams and collecting a $10,000 first-place prize.
