Senior Alex Pigott has left her mark on the campus in hundreds of different ways. Since she started working for Student Activties three years ago as its publicity intern, she has designed more than half of the posters that have been tacked to walls and doors throughout  campus.

“She has certainly changed the campus model for advertising events, raising the bar for how we share information about the many events for students, faculty and staff,” Student Activities Director Allen Delong said.

As word got around of Pigott’s talent as a graphic designer, student groups began to take more interest in how they marketed their programs, according to Associate Director of Student Activities Nate Hintze. “They make sure to come in the office early to ask for a ‘Pigott Poster’,” he said. “She has managed to change the culture of how programs and events are advertised on campus.”

Besides being talented, the Student Activities team — which includes Silvia Serban and Bonnie Pardue as well as Delong and Hintze — say Pigott is reliable, hardworking, and a joy to work with on a daily basis. “She has an infectious positive attitude,” Hintze said. “Our office is super busy and she has an innate ability to stay on task with all the distractions around. She has an amazing attention to detail to make sure the information on the posters is always correct and to avoid having to do reprints.”

This spring, Pigott took on additional supervisory responsibilities in her job and is now mentoring three of her peers in graphic design.

Each year the Student Employment Office chooses a student of the year based on nominations. The winner receives an award and a cash prize. All of the nominated students are honored at a reception.
