Students, staff and faculty honored 16 out seniors in a tradition at Bowdoin that began last year.
Dean of Student Affairs Tim Foster spoke to the attendees about the courage required to be out, even in a world that is rapidly improving for LGBTIQA people.
Tim Ryan, Ashmead White director of athletics, presented Susanna Howard ’14 with a Rainbow Polar Bear award, highlighting her work to create a more welcoming athletic environment on campus.
Kate Stern, director of the Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, presented two more Rainbow Polar Bear Awards to seniors Aiden Reis and Jasmine Bailey, who have worked at the center and been leaders in creating positive culture change during their time on campus.
Jasmine Bailey, co-president of BQSA, shared some remarks encapsulating her time on campus and the changes that she has experienced while a student.
Seniors were presented with wisdom and advice from out alumni from Bowdoin classes ranging from 1947-2013.
The dinner, catered by Bowdoin Dining, took place at Cram Alumni’s House’s Torrey Barn.
