Nine Bowdoin seniors have won Fulbright fellowships to work as English teaching assistants in Germany, Bulgaria, South Korea, Mexico, Romania, the Slovak Republic, Poland, and Taiwan. Three students have Fulbright fellowships to pursue research in Germany, China, and Mexico. See the posters below for more information.
Five seniors—Will Danforth, Olivia Stone, Emma Patterson, Shan Nagra, and Alex Cheston—have won Princeton University-affiliated fellowships to work in Mongolia, Nicaragua, Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
Seniors Katherine Carter and Michael Colbert, and Robert Daren Hughes Jr. ’13, have been accepted to the government-run JET Programme to teach English or work as a coordinator for international relations in Japan. Nicholas Tonckens ’16 and Ivette Pala ’16 will be studying Russian, in Russia, with Critical Language Scholarships. Sinead Murphy Lamel ’15 also has a Critical Language Scholarship to study Arabic in Amman, Jordan. Anna Piotti ’16 will teach English in Austria with an Austrian Government English Teaching Assistantship.
Haley Miller ’16 received the prestigious Keasbey Scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Scotland. Tess Hamilton ’16 has a Watson fellowship to travel all of next year, exploring how people around the world create homes. Caroline Martinez ’16 won a Davis Project for Peace grant to offer leadership training to indigenous women in Ecuador. Megan Freiberger ’16 was awarded a National Science Foundation grant to do graduate research in paleoceanography at Columbia University’s Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory.
Non-seniors who won national awards this year include Liam Taylor ’17, who won a Barry Goldwater Scholarship, and Catherine Hamley ’10, Isaiah Bolden ’15, and Sheela Turbek ’13, who all received graduate research fellowships from the National Science Foundation. Alithea McFarlane ’14 received a Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship.
