Institutional Grants Awarded in Fiscal Year 2013 Archives

American Society for Microbiology awarded Associate Professor of Biology and Biochemistry Anne McBride $4,000 in support of an undergraduate summer fellowship.

Bath Savings Institution gave $5,000 in support of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art’s exhibit Per Kirkeby: Paintings and Sculpture.

The Edna McConnell Clark award, $12,000 granted annually, is used by Bowdoin’s Women’s Resource Center to offer innovative programming in support of women students and their male counterparts who take an interest in gender equity concerns, and for collaborations among all Bowdoin students.

The Cowles Charitable Trust awarded the Bowdoin College Museum of Art $8,000 for William Wegman: Hello Nature.

“Pariwartan,” the Davis Foundation Projects for Peace project carried out by Apekshya Prasai ’16, involved providing victims of child rights violations in Nepal with therapeutic services to help them recover from their traumatic experiences and empower them to fight human rights violations using modern day tools such as visual arts and social media. The goal of all Projects for Peace activities is the furtherance of peaceful coexistence worldwide.

Furthermore: a program of the J. M. Kaplan Fund, awarded the Bowdoin College Museum of Art $5,000 from in support of the Maurice Prendergast: By the Sea catalogue.

The Mr. and Mrs. Raymond J. Horowitz Foundation for the Arts gave $100,000 to the Bowdoin College Museum of Art is support of the exhibition Maurice Prendergast: By the Sea.

Robert Lehman Foundation, Inc. gave $8,500 in support of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art’s exhibition Maurice Prendergast: By the Sea.

Lowy Medical Research Institute awarded Bowdoin College $25,000 in support of student training and research in neuroscience at Bowdoin.  The funding provides summer research fellowships as well as a translational learning experience for students in Molecular Neuroscience, as they delve into the study of a real-world disease that affects hundreds of thousands of people, but has no cure.

Maine Arts Commission awarded the Bowdoin College Museum of Art $15,000 Maurice Prendergast: By the Sea.

The Mellam Family Foundation awarded Bowdoin Career Planning $10,000 to provide supplemental support for two additional summer internships for students interested in the Robert S. Goodfriend and Richard B. and Sabra Ladd internships.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded Bowdoin College a grant of $675,000 to support new opportunities for thematic instruction across the humanities to enhance the undergraduate curriculum.  This program will offer new ways for students to experience related areas of the curriculum, provide opportunities for greater student engagement with faculty research and support for independent student research, create symposia and visiting speakers associated with clusters of courses, and foster new opportunities for faculty development and collaboration.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded Bowdoin College a President’s Leadership Award for $250,000. The funds will be used in-part to embed the legacy of the President’s Arts and Lecture Fund, and in-part to accelerate innovation in teaching and learning through use of technology, online education and distance education in the classroom.

A.P. Moller & Chastine McKinney Moller Foundation gave $25,000 in support of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art’s exhibit Per Kirkeby: Paintings and Sculpture.

The Morton-Kelly Charitable Trust gave $10,000 in support of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art’s exhibit Maurice Prendergast: By the Sea.

The National Archives & Records Administration awarded $1,000 to the George J. Mitchell Department of Special Collections & Archives to digitize the home movies of Ralph Owen Brewster, Bowdoin Class of 1909, who served as Governor of Maine, and in both the U.S. House and Senate.

The Seth Sprague Educational and Charitable Foundation gave $50,000 in honor of Anthony Antolini, to support the Class of 1963 Scholarship Fund.

The Seth Sprague Educational and Charitable Foundation awarded $10,000 to the College to support the activities of the Bowdoin Chorus, under the direction of Anthony Antolini.
