Slowly But Surely, Campus Electricity Coming Back Archives

Power was restored to most of the Bowdoin College campus late Tuesday afternoon as utility crews worked to reverse the effects of Maine’s worst power outage in recent memory. By shortly after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday—after roughly 36 hours in the dark—all but two residence halls and the Moulton Union were up and running, allowing students to eat meals in both the Thorne Hall and Moulton Union dining facilities. Previously, only Thorne Hall, which is equipped with generator power, was available for student meals and as a place to congregate and charge phones and other devices. Many academic buildings remained without power Wednesday morning, with Central Maine Power Company crews working to restore electricity. Classes were nevertheless going forward and all employees were reporting to work after two days of only “essential personnel” on hand.
