Marathon matriarch Joan Benoit Samuelson ’79 was in Italy as history was made in the world of long distance running May 6, 2017. Her fellow Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge ran a marathon distance of 26.2 miles in 2:00:25, the fastest ever run. It is not an official world record, however, due to rules regarding pace-setting. The attempt was part of a Nike project called Breaking2.
Benoit Samuelson was at the finish line and quick to post the photo above to Instagram. Read more about it in The New York Times.
