For her varied and distinguished service to the College, Tracy Burlock ’81 has been named the recipient of the 2014 Alumni Service Award, the highest honor given by the Bowdoin Alumni Council.
The award is presented each year in recognition of an individual’s record of volunteer service to the College.
Burlock, of Newton, Mass., has been tireless in her efforts to help raise funds to ensure that the Bowdoin experience remains a reality for generations to follow.
Her work and tenure as a vice-chair and member of the Board of Trustees has been called exemplary. Burlock has also been a leader among the Class of 1981 and has been very involved in the Bowdoin Club of Boston.
Other service to Bowdoin ranges from roles on the President’s Visiting Committee and Leadership Gift Committee to volunteering during phonathons.
Having graduated magna cum laude with a double major in classics and economics, Burlock went on to the world of banking, filling various leadership roles within BayBank in Boston, including that of senior vice president and director of large corporate lending.
She is involved with the Shady Hill School in Cambridge, Mass., serving on the board’s audit committee, and is a mentor in Year Up, the intensive training program for urban young adults founded by Gerald Chertavian ’87.
Burlock’s brother, Walter E. “Buzz” Burlock Jr., and her sister-in-law, Leslie Walker Burlock, are both members of the Class of 1985.
First established in 1932 as the Alumni Achievement Award and renamed the Alumni Service Award in 1953, the award is made annually to the person whose volunteer services to Bowdoin, in the opinion of alumni, as expressed to the Alumni Council, most deserve recognition.
The Alumni Service Award will be presented Saturday, May 31, 2014, during Reunion Convocation.
Registration for Reunion 2014 (May 29-June 1) opens in March.
