An exhibition by photography professor and recent Guggenheim Fellow Michael Kolster is on view in the PhoPa Gallery in Portland, Maine. PROVING GROUND opened on September 17 and runs through October 25, with an opening reception to be held on September 26 from 5-7 p.m.
“Featuring images from bodies of work not previously shown in Maine, PROVING GROUND brings together a variety of processes from one-of-a-kind color collages and photograms to silver gelatin panoramas and “hand-colored” digital prints,” according to the gallery. “Kolster probes the representative nature of photography by experimenting with different methods to manipulate the shapes, tones, and colors of the images.”
Kolster will also present an artist’s talk at PhoPa Gallery (which is overseen by gallery manager Rachel MacDonald ’12) on October 5 at 3:00 p.m. Click here for more information and a sneak peek of images from the exhibition.
