467 Volunteers Take Part in the 2014 Common Good Day Archives

In an enduring and popular 15-year-old tradition, 432 students and 35 staff, faculty, alumni and family members fanned out across the region last Saturday to accomplish good deeds. Each year the McKeen Center organizes Common Good Day to give many people an opportunity to do community service alongside a Bowdoin team.

The volunteers broke into groups to work with one of 48 local organizations, including the American Red Cross, Brunswick High School, land trusts, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, the Brunswick soup kitchen and food pantry, parks, libraries, and more.

David Conover, Bowdoin’s Costal Studies scholar, also hosted a cleanup project on the shore of the Coastal Studies Center because Common Good Day coincided with International Coastal Cleanup Day. Meanwhile, alumni in nine cities organized volunteer efforts last Saturday, too.
