- Your card received and many thanks. I am so sorry we could not have seen more of each other. I truly wanted to ask you to come down and see me but hardly dared to, thinking you might have been otherwise engaged. I came up twice to S— one night you were at Sedgwick. I had a dandy time while down there. Poor Clouie.

How did the game [Bates vs. opponent?] come out? What did S. Grey say about me? I would like much to know. Was it you who telephoned to Clapp. the mean thing he wouldn't come over. (shall I hear again?)
