Real Data Interactive Data Visualization

by David Reichert and James Boyle

Description

In these visualizations, we use data about students from two Portugese secondary schools.

We use this data to create two visualizations. The first visualization allows the user to look at the different proportions and frequencies of primary caretakers for students at the two schools. This visualization supports a stacked bar chart interface and a grouped bar chart interface; these show caretaker data by percentage and frequency, respectively

The second visualization shows student grade data and student absence data by age in a two-axis bar chart.

Interactivity

For Visualization 1, the main interactivity is clicking the button to toggle between grouped and stacked bar chart representation. A user clicking also changes the y-axis scale and axis title

For Visualization 2, the main interactivity is toggling between the three different chart types and seeing the chart values, scales, and axis titles change correspondingly
