Throughout February, Bowdoin College has lined up a series of events to celebrate Black History Month.
On Saturday, the College will screen Southside with You, a film that chronicles the summer of 1989 when future US president Barack Obama courts his soon-to-be wife, Michelle, in Chicago’s South Side.
Associate Professor of English Guy Mark Foster will give a talk in Ladd House on Feb. 7 on “What’s Afro-Pessimism Have to Do With It?” And Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures Hanetha Vete-Congolo will speak on Feb. 28 at at Howell House about the historical figures Anna Nzinga, Queen Nanny, Solitude, and others.
The month includes two concerts. Rapper/singer ELHAE will perform his brand of rhythm and blues on Feb. 11, in Studzinski Recital Hall. And On Feb. 23, both Harold Green and The Nat Simpkins Jazz Trio perform at Jack Magee’s Pub. Green is an author, actor, and poet.
On Feb 25, the student group African-American Society will throw its annual Ebony Ball in Moulton Union.
