The undertaking of such efforts should be a primary objective of any liberal arts education.

While most colleges and universities seem to promote a one-sided view – radical political correctness, it appears that Bowdoin has taken a step toward intellectual honesty. It would be great to see Bowdoin students explore the intellectual and motivational roots of “progressivism” versus Constitutional conservatism in a manner that enables them to question and understand both sides with clarity and respect. Free thinkers are so rare.

I hope both Messrs. Brooks and Bruni take the time to read it.

My guess is Professor Yarborough already has.

He’s an opinion columnist.
