Five sophomores have been selected as Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows this year: Emily Coin, Rodolfo Edeza, Marble Karuu, Isabelle Rodriguez and Filiberto Vargas. The fellowship will support the students as they pursue independent research for the next two years, both on and off campus, while being mentored by a Bowdoin professor.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation works with 81 institutions, including Bowdoin, to identify promising future scholars who can help bring cultural and intellectual diversity to the teaching faculties of colleges and universities. The foundation provides the fellows with stipends and other resources to pursue research in a wide range of fields, from anthropology to physics and astronomy. In total, since 1992, Bowdoin has produced 84 Mellon Mays Fellows.
