Three Bowdoin students have had their research published in the first volume of a new peer-reviewed journal of undergraduate community-based research. The journal features essays by students from schools across the country, including Princeton, Purdue, UCLA, Bates, Macalester and Notre Dame.
The Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning and Community-Based Research published the essay of Allison Kuriloff ’12 and Jordan Payne ’12, “Examining the Efficacy, Longevity, and Impact of the Kids First I-Cope Program.” Kuriloff and Payne worked with Craig McEwen, Bowdoin’s Daniel B. Fayerweather Professor of Political Economy and Sociology Emeritus, to look at a court-ordered co-parenting program for parents in high-conflict divorce.
The journal also published the work of Amar Patel ’13, who partnered with John Fitzgerald, Bowdoin’s William D. Shipman Professor of Economics, and the Maine Center for Economic Policy to study the economic impact of buying local in Portland. Patel’s essay, “Buying Local: An Economic Impact Analysis of Portland, Maine,” breaks down the benefits of every dollar spent at mom-and-pop businesses in Portland.
