Bowdoin Featured in Special C-SPAN Coverage Oct. 6-7 Archives

Bowdoin and its ties to this country’s rich history will be highlighted throughout this weekend during special programming on the networks of C-SPAN.

Amid what C-SPAN has billed as “Augusta Weekend,” a side trip to Brunswick will showcase holdings of the George J. Mitchell Department of Special Collections & Archives, including early printings of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin and the papers of Sen. George Mitchell ’54 and Oliver Otis Howard, of the Class of 1850. Additional insight is provided through interviews with Associate Professor of Africana Studies and English Tess Chakkalakal, and George J. Mitchell Department of Special Collections & Archives Director Richard Lindemann.

The segments are to air on C-SPAN2’s Book TV at noon Saturday, Oct. 6, and at 5 p.m. Sunday Oct. 7, on C-SPAN3’s American History TV.
