Every August, the 200 students who are selected to live in the eight College Houses participate in a three day College House Orientation before the start of the fall semester. During this orientation, each house poses for a group photo. The students don’t see these photos until mid-December when they’re revealed at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art.

“¬To celebrate the unveiling of this year’s photos, taken by Dennis Griggs, the Office of Residential Life recently invited the house’s residents to the Museum for a reception. “We provide a little study break, so the students can peel themselves away from the library for a short time,” Assistant Director of Residential Life Chris Rossi ’10 said. Faculty advisors and deans who help the houses plan events, such as talks by professors or filmmakers, are also invited.
The College Houses are often referred to as the “living rooms” of campus as they plan events throughout the school year to bring students, faculty, staff and community members together in intimate settings. College House residents are selected through a competitive process, chosen for their leadership ability and motivation to provide a breadth of cultural and social activities for the Bowdoin community throughout the year.
