In 2008, Chris Brown ’91 launched the inaugural Record Store Day, an annual celebration of independent record stores everywhere. Nine years later it’s one of the biggest global events in the music retail industry, and this year features hundreds of new releases and special re-issues, including material from David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Death Cab For Cutie, and some vintage Madonna. The event also features live in-store appearances across the nation from artists including Metallica, Bonnie Raitt, Graham Nash, and Mumford and Sons.
In this 93-minute youtube video, which was also posted to the Record Store Day website, Chris Brown previews some of this year’s musical offerings. More than 25 years ago, Brown helped Brett Wickard ’90, set up Bull Moose Music, which now operates 12 record stores in Maine and New Hampshire.
