Prof. Nadia Celis Receives Award for New Book Archives

nadia-celis-2011-2The 2016 Premio Iberoamericano Award Committee of the Latin American Studies Association has awarded an honorable mention to Nadia Celis’s book, La rebelión de las niñas: El Caribe y la “conciencia corporal” (The Rebellion of Girls: The Caribbean and “Corporeal Consciousness”).

LASA is the largest and most well-known professional association in the area of Latin American studies. Celis, an associate professor of Romance languages and literatures, specializes in 20th- and 21st-century Latin American, Hispanic Caribbean and Latino Literature
, Caribbean studies, and feminist theory and criticism, among other subjects.

La rebelión de las niñas, published in 2015, is a study of the representation of girlhood in the work of Hispanic Caribbean women writers, as well as a critique of the multifaceted relation of power and gendered bodies in Caribbean cultures. Read more about the book here.
