The Department of Theater and Dance presents the annual December Dance Concert Thursday, Friday and Saturday, December 3, 4 and 5, at 8 p.m. in Pickard Theater, Memorial Hall. The performance is free and open to the public. General admission tickets are available at the door, or in advance at the Smith Union Information desk: 207-725-3375.
This December’s program features faculty-directed choreography for students — live original music by the composer Shamou, and performances to music ranging from the Brazilian pop classic “Tiko Tiko” to Louis Armstrong’s “Alligator Crawl.”
Visiting Artist Laura Peterson will be joined by members of her New York City-based company Laura Peterson Choreography to present a new work in progress called “Untitled Diagrams,” which is inspired by graphic equations from the field of linguistics and philosophy.
Peterson’s work has been performed in Europe, South America and in New York City venues such as PS 122 and Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors. The company appeared at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2013, and the following year Peterson was awarded a Fellowship at the Bogliasco Foundation in Italy.
A closing night reception sponsored by the Association of Bowdoin Friends will be held in Drake Lobby Saturday, Dec. 5, after the performance.
Tickets are free but required and are available at the Smith Union information desk (Tel. 207-725-3375) and immediately before the show at the door.
The event is sponsored by the Bowdoin College Department of Theater and Dance with funding from the Alice Cooper Morse Fund for the Performing Arts and the June Vail fund for Dance.
