Sarah Luppino ’10 and Alex Carpenter ’10 have received awards from the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program to support their graduate studies in chemistry.

Luppino plans to use her funding to “carry out research in chemical synthesis” at MIT this coming fall. Carpenter is studying inorganic chemistry at the University of California in San Diego. Both students graduated with honors in chemistry, with Prof. Beth Stemmler advising Luppino and Prof. Rick Broene advising Carpenter.

National Science Foundation graduate fellows received a three-year annual stipend of $30,000 along with a $10,500 cost of education allowance for tuition and fees. They’re also given opportunities for international research and professional development, and the freedom to conduct their own research at any accredited U.S. institution of graduate education they choose.
