Visiting Assistant Professor of History Tom Okie was awarded the prestigious Allan Nevins Prize from the Society of American Historians, for his dissertation “Everything is Peaches Down in Georgia: Culture and Agriculture in the American South.”
Okie completed the dissertation in 2012 for his doctoral degree at the University of Georgia. Having spent a fruitful year at Bowdoin, Okie will now begin a position as Assistant Professor at Kennesaw State University this fall.
The University of Georgia’s newspaper The Red and Black ran an article about Okie’s award last week.
