Beginning after Reunion Weekend 2017, the George J. Mitchell Department of Special Collections & Archives will assume modified public hours for the summer.
Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) will be open Monday through Friday between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., June 5 – August 25, 2017. During these times, no appointment is necessary to do research.
On weekday mornings, the SC&A reading room will be open only by appointment or chance. Researchers interested in making an appointment should email scaref@bowdoin.edu or call (207) 725-3288.
SC&A is home to more than 50,000 volumes of rare books, including important holdings on the Civil War, Arctic exploration, natural history, the fine arts, and book arts; the papers of more than 300 individuals or families with ties to Bowdoin, Brunswick, or Maine, including those of Senator George J. Mitchell; and the official records of Bowdoin College.
SC&A is a department of the Bowdoin College Library and is located on the third floor of the Hawthorne-Longfellow Library.
