Slideshow: Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Roux Center for the Environment Archives

The sun shone over a crowd gathered near the corner of College Street and Harpswell Road Friday evening, May 12, 2017, to witness the ceremonial groundbreaking of the Roux Center for the Environment. Actual site work is to begin in June.

The project’s lead donors, Trustee David Roux and his wife, Barbara Roux, joined President Clayton Rose, Interim Dean for Academic Affairs Jennifer Scanlon, Board of Trustees Chair Michele Cyr ’76, P’12, and Timothy Mansfield, architect and principal of Cambridge Seven Associates, in taking the first shovelfuls of dirt from the site of the building that will support interdisciplinary environmental scholarship.

The Roux Center for the Environment will bring faculty from many academic disciplines together to encourage collaboration and creativity in the teaching and scholarship of the environment and further strengthen Bowdoin’s position as a preeminent institution in this area of study.
