Today the University of Oklahoma Press releases a book by Frank Goodyear, newly appointed co-director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art.
A President in Yellowstone explores Chester Arthur’s six-week expedition to the national park in 1883, as documented in a photographic album of Frank Jay Haynes, whom Goodyear calls Yellowstone’s first “official” photographer.
This past week Goodyear made his own expedition to Yellowstone, to sign copies of his book at the opening of the renovated Haynes Photo Shop at Old Faithful. Formerly Haynes’s studio, the historic building is now a museum and information center.
