Russian Folk Musicians Entertain on Campus Archives

Some of the Bowdoin community were welcomed back from Spring Break by being taken on a musical journey through Russia, courtesy of the folk ensemble Zolotoj Plyos, who demonstrated a variety of musical styles, costumes, songs, dancing, and many different Russian folk instruments.

Founded in 1994 in the Russian city of Saratov but now based in Belgium, the  group is comprised of Alexander Solovov, Elena Sadina, and Sergei Grachev, who collectively play more than thirty Russian folk instruments. On March 26, 2018, they held a workshop on campus before performing at the Studzkinski Recital Hall in a concert sponsored by the Departments of Russian and Music, with the generous support of a loyal Bowdoin family.
